Students can participate in the Rock-a-Thon to raise funds for the Hancock County Humane Society April 4-8 outside the library during study halls or lunch.
Volunteers ask donors to sponsor them for reading in a rocking chair during a free period and then give the money to Librarian Debbie Reynolds to go the animal shelter.
“Because the Humane Society, which is such a great cause, is non-profit, it doesn’t have enough money for medical costs for some animals,” teacher Kim Brown, Teen Read Week Committee member, said. “We want to get any type of funds or relief for them we can.”
The Rock-a-Thon is part of Teen Read Week, an effort to promote spending more time with books.
“You (students) read so much required literature, you have little time to read for entertainment,” Reynolds said. “It’s important to promote life-long reading and enjoying books.”
