Album:
Vices & Virtues

Artist: Panic! At the Disco

Sound: Alternative Rock

Last Release: Pretty. Odd.

Why buy it: After splitting with two of their band mates, lead singer Brendon Urie and drummer Spencer Smith ousted the sickly sweet style of Pretty. Odd. and reinstated the wailing rock melodies of their debut album, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out.

The resulting sound is much more formulaic pop than the off-the-wall lyrics and beats of before, but fans will still rejoice the transition. The angst-filled rock songs like Hurricane are balanced by the addition of the slower ballad, Always. Each track has an element of its own—synthesizer, orchestra and harmonica to name a few—that sets it apart from the next.
