Both the Blue & Gold newspaper and its news website, www.blueandgoldtoday.org, are finalists for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) Gold Crown awards.

Both programs will receive either a Gold or Silver Crown at the CSPA’s 87th Annual Convention March 16-18 at Columbia University in New York City.

“The Gold Crown is one of the biggest awards in the country for scholastic journalism,” adviser Jim McGonnell said. “It’s a big deal being nominated for one, let alone two, Crown awards. It means you have one of the top media programs in the country.”

Besides the Crown awards, individual staff members from the Blue & Gold and The Vid were also nominated for 22 Gold Circle awards.

“It (winning a Gold Circle) would be an honor because I’ve put a lot of time into this program and worked hard on improving my photography skills,” senior Taylor McGonnell said. “With it being my senior year, it would be a good note to end on.”
