Basic requirements to enlist in the military:
- High school diploma
- No drug charges
- Felonies will make it difficult to join, and it’s impossible if it is a sexual felony.
- Good medical status (no asthma or ADHD)
- If you’ve seen a psychiatrist or psychologist, you must wait six weeks and be mentally evaluated by the military.
Each job in the military may have its own independent list of standards. Check it out on the official website for more information.
Those enlisted on active duty in the military for at least 90 days are eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Montgomery Bill. This grants:
- Tuition for 36 academic months of college
- $1,200/year for tutoring services
- $1,000/year for books and lab fees
- Housing allowance based off of zip code, which is $1,050/month in Findlay.
Because Army Reserves is not active duty, there are different benefits:
- $200 for each drill attended
- $4,500/year tuition assistance
- $683/month for college
- Up to $30,000 student loan
