Tonight’s girls basketball games will include raffles and a 50/50 drawing to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS) through Coaches vs. Cancer.
The ACS and National Association of Basketball Coaches worked together to create Coaches vs. Cancer as a campaign to raise awareness about the disease.
“It’s important for our student athletes to take the eyes off themselves,” coach Connie Lyon said. “Sometimes society can be a ‘me’ society, focused on ‘me’ rather than others.
“This is just one of the various things our basketball program does to focus on others and not ourselves.”
The team will also raise money for Coaches vs. Cancer by giving out coupons that give 15 percent of the proceeds to the organization when you buy a meal at Max & Erma’s Jan. 24, as well as selling $5 tickets for a breakfast at Max & Erma’s 8 to 10 a.m. Jan 29 and T-shirts for $8.
“This fundraiser is important to the girls,” event coordinator Kristen Hunter said. “They enjoy doing it and are proud to be able to raise money to help out.”
Contact a Lady Trojan basketball player to receive a coupon or purchase tickets or shirts, which will also be sold during lunch and at games.
